Works of Heart

TORONTO, September 27, 2006 – Nearly $800,000 was raised in support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at both Mount Sinai and Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, at last night’s exciting new event, Works of Heart.

More than 400 people attended the dinner and fine art auction, which was a collaborative effort between the two world-class organizations.

"This event is a wonderful example of what can be accomplished with a collective effort and a shared goal. It reinforces the core values of both Mount Sinai Hospital and Shaare Zedek Medical Center: to provide the best possible care to all our patients, especially the most delicate and fragile of newborns," said Joseph Mapa, Mount Sinai’s President and CEO.

The event was hosted by award-winning journalist Valerie Pringle and featured the work of well-known and up-and-coming artists from Canada, Israel and the U.S. including Franz Johnston, Tony Scherman, Barry Oretsky, Harold Town and Takao Tanabe.

“This is a spectacular new event for Mount Sinai this year and the funds designated to our Valentine Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will truly make a difference in the lives of infants and their families,” said Carol Wilding, President of the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation. “Congratulations to co-chairs Michael Bregman and Jeffrey Rosenthal and their entire committee for their tireless dedication to this event. It was truly a work of heart.”
