Celebrating Miracles with Minister Matthews

The Honourable Deb Matthews, Ontario's Minister of Health and Long-Term Care joined Joseph Mapa, Rabbi Schulman and other members of the Hospital community on Thursday, November 28 in the lighting of Mount Sinai’s Hanukkah menorah. Minister Matthews told those who gathered that it was very special to be able to celebrate the miracles of Hanukkah at Mount Sinai, a place where miracles happen every day. The Rabbi also noted that it was important to light the candles each night of the eight-day Jewish holiday on behalf of the patients who are unable to celebrate in their own homes. After the ceremony that included singing traditional Hanukkah songs, guests enjoyed ‘latkes’ (a.k.a. potatoes pancakes cooked in oil) a symbolic Hanukkah snack.
