Structural Upgrades
Part of Renew Sinai Construction
What are structural upgrades?
Structural upgrades strengthen the structure of our building, and include things like reinforcing concrete. For example, concrete will be added to stairwell walls throughout the Hospital to make them thicker, and stronger.
The upgrades are one component of the first project of Renew Sinai, and will be completed over approximately two years. They are a necessary requirement of the building permit we received from the City of Toronto.
We’ll also be drilling into the bedrock around the elevators on the basement floor and anchoring cables to the foundation. These cables will then run from the bedrock in the first floor to the top of the building.
The structural upgrades will cause noise, vibration, and, at times, limited access to stairs and elevators, but we will do our very best to keep the disruption to a minimum.
Will these upgrades make the Hospital safer?
Rest assured that our Hospital is already structurally sound. Again, these structural upgrades are simply part of new Ontario Building Code standards. One thing is certain – when the upgrades are complete, we will have one of the strongest buildings downtown!
