The Division of Research within the Department of Dentistry

The Department of Dentistry, Mount Sinai Hospital pursues research that is relevant and useful to dental practitioners specifically and oral health in general. The Division of Research within the Department of Dentistry emphasizes patient-oriented research of practical and/or academic value while also inviting the exploration of new and challenging topics that provide a unique perspective in the rapidly evolving segments of oral and dental-related health issues as well as a broad spectrum of pathobiological areas of interest that intersect the fields of dentistry and medicine; that is, biomedicine. For example, much research within the Department of Dentistry at the Mount Sinai Hospital has focused on areas of acute and chronic craniofacial pain and while this has obvious implications for oral health the impact of the work done applies to pain experienced in other parts of the human body as well. The multi-disciplinary research environment within the department promotes the development of knowledge of the clinical, socio-behavioral, and fundamental biomedical sciences relevant to craniofacial pain and other conditions.
