Heather Shapiro MD, FRCSC
Dr. Shapiro is member of the Mount Sinai Hospital Fertility Centre as well as Director, Postgraduate Medical Education for the University of Toronto, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is also a member of the ARHC/SOGC/CFAS Tripartite Committee.
She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Toronto. She is the currently the Chair of the Special Advisory Committee, Health Canada for Human Reproductive Therapies.
Dr. Shapiro received her MD from McMaster University. She completed her residency training at the University of Toronto. Dr. Shapiro then completed further training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Bern, Switzerland and University of Toronto with Dr Robert Casper.
Upon returning to Canada, Dr. Shapiro studied Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatics at McMaster University. She then accepted a position at the University of Toronto. Dr. Shapiro is a member of the Nucleus Committee of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada, Examination Committee, Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Shapiro's current clinical and research areas are:
- Improving aspects of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs)
- Evidence-based decision making in medicine
- Delivering care to HIV-positive patients
