Troubleshooting Hearing Aids

If the hearing aid is not working, check:

1.  No battery or low battery.

  • Replace the battery. 
  • Make sure the battery surface is clean
  • Make sure the battery door is closed completely.

2.  The sound outlet is blocked with wax. 

  • Clean the outlet using the brush
  • change the wax filter.

3.  The microphone inlet is blocked. 

  • Clean the microphone opening with a dry brush.


If the hearing aid “whistles” in your ear, check:

1.  The hearing aid may not be correctly inserted into your ear.  Pull it out and try again.

2.  The fit of the hearing aid is too loose.  Consult your audiologist.


If the hearing aid hurts your ear:

1.  The hearing aid may not be correctly inserted into your ear.  Pull it out and re-insert it.

2.  The hearing aid may need to be modified.  Consult your audiologist.


If the hearing aid slips out of your ear:

1.  The hearing aid may not be correctly inserted into your ear.  Pull it out and re-insert. 

2.  The fit of the hearing aid is too loose, or gets dislodged with jaw movement (chewing, speaking, yawning, etc.).  Consult your audiologist.


If the hearing aid is difficult to insert:

1.  Consult your audiologist.
