Funding Resources
Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has a program called The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) that helps with some of the cost of medical equipment and supplies. ADP will contribute $500 towards the cost of one hearing aid and $1,000 if you need two hearing aids.
For FM systems, ADP will pay 75 per cent up to a maximum of $1,350 of the cost of the ADP listed device and dispensing fee. In order to qualify for funding help for an FM system, pre-approval is needed. Your audiologist will need to write a letter on your behalf outlining your lifestyle and listening needs.
If your hearing aid or FM system is no longer working, and cannot be repaired at a reasonable cost, ADP will help replace it once every three years.
For more information, please see the ADP website: http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/pub/adp/hearaid.html
Social Assistance
If you are receiving social assistance benefits under Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) or Assistance to Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD), you may be eligible to receive funding for your hearing aid(s).
Please advise your audiologist when you come in for your appointment, and bring your case worker’s contact information with you.
We will submit a quote for the cost of the selected device(s) to your case worker for pre-approval. It often takes 4-6 weeks for the quote to be approved.
Veterans
If you qualify for Health Care Benefits through the Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), you may be eligible for funding assistance for your hearing aid(s), as well as for assistive listening devices and batteries/accessories.
Please bring your VAC Health Identification Card with you to your appointment.
For more information, please visit the VAC website: http://vac-acc.gc.ca/clients/sub.cfm?source=services/poc/poc3
Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
If your Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claim for noise-induced hearing loss or traumatic hearing loss has been allowed, you may qualify for hearing aid funding.
A quote must be submitted for pre-authorization prior to ordering the aid(s) for you. Batteries and out-of-warranty repairs may also be covered. Authorization for any Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) or FM systems would require a letter from your audiologist outlining your need for this technology.
Extended Health Plans
If you have an extended health plan, you may have coverage towards the purchase and/or repair of your hearing aid(s). Some plans also cover audiology appointments, such as hearing consultations. Policies do differ, so it is best to contact your insurance provider and asking how much coverage you have for hearing aids.
