Infant Hearing Program

FamilyThe Hearing, Balance and Speech Department (Otologic Function Unit) at Mount Sinai Hospital has a strong involvement in the development and implementation of the services available to babies born deaf and hard-of-hearing in the province of Ontario.

The Otologic Function Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital has been involved in newborn and infant hearing screening and testing since 1981. The unit worked with the government to develop the Ontario Infant Hearing Program and continues to have strong involvement in its implementation, including training and quality management.

The Ontario Infant Hearing Program was announced by the Ontario government in 2000.  The program went into effect in Spring, 2002.
