Advancing Diabetes Practice: 2008 Clinical Practice Guidelines – Impact on Intensive Therapy (IT)

Purpose:
This two-day workshop for health-care providers (including physicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers and pharmacists) will enable them to apply 2008 Clinical Practice Guidelines to advanced diabetes self-management for clients using insulin.
Overall objectives:
Workshop A is designed for diabetes educators who wish to gain expertise in the essential components of Intensive Therapy (insulin therapy & carbohydrate counting) for adults and who are less experienced in terms of Intensive insulin therapy.
Workshop B is designed for multidisciplinary health team members who are experienced in IT to update their skills and apply new evidence in their practice settings.
Plenary sessions and concurrent workshops C and D are designed for both groups and cover new guidelines for:
- Pregnancy
- Acute inpatient care
- Endurance training
- Self-management education (including an introduction to coping skills and motivational interviewing).
