Maternal Infant Program
Part of the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women's and Infants' Health
The Maternal Infant Program at Mount Sinai Hospital is a type of prenatal service not found in many other hospitals. Our advanced practice nurses provide assessment and advice, information and support to pregnant women as well as their partners.
As a patient, you have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with nurses to discuss your questions and concerns. Our nurses will then be a resource for you throughout your woman's pregnancy and the early weeks of motherhood.
The programs we offer include:
-
the new Early Pregnancy Information Session with discussion on things like diet, physical changes, drug use and routine prenatal care ;
-
Prenatal sessions on breastfeeding and parenting multiples;
-
the Young Mothers Prenatal Group for
-
the Breastfeeding Centre, which offers inpatient and outpatient lactation consultation, daily breastfeeding classes and drop-in help sessions for inpatients, telephone support, and the Breastfeeding Accessories Shop; and
-
the Hospital information and Tour of the Labour and Delivery Unit, the Mother-Baby Unit and the Breastfeeding Centre.
We also run an anaesthetic clinic for women with medical conditions who may need to have Caesarean sections or for women with questions about the anaesthesia options available during delivery (such as an epidural, used to manage labour pain).
