Breastfeeding Centre
The Breastfeeding Centre provides inpatient and outpatient lactation consultation, daily breastfeeding classes, drop-in help sessions for inpatients, and telephone support.
Located on the 7th floor at 600 University Ave., it also includes the Breastfeeding Accessories Shop.
Our program is staffed by a team of registered nurse/lactation consultants who provide breastfeeding support services free of charge to all Mount Sinai patients for as long as they are breastfeeding their babies. The consultants are also available for prenatal breastfeeding consultations for patients with special needs.
Breastfeeding consultation services
- Prenatal Consultations are available on an outpatient basis by appointment only. Common reasons for prenatal consultations are:
- History of Breast Surgery (breast reduction or implants with areolar incision)
- Previous unsuccessful breastfeeding experience
- Planning to breastfeed multiples
- Inpatient Consultations & Education
An assessments with a breastfeeding consultant is available on the Mother-Baby Units for mothers and babies who meet the criteria for referral. Our unit nurses are all skilled in helping new mothers learn to breastfeed.
If additional help is needed the nurse will initiate a referral to the breastfeeding consultant. As a patients can also meet the lactation consultant each day during one of the following group sessions: - tips for success in the early days of breastfeeding

Available 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., by appointment only. These consultations are for any mother and baby who are experiencing difficulty breastfeeding after discharge from hospital.

Available 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for mothers, families, and other health professionals. Typical issues of concerns for other health professionals include: treatment of low milk supply, mastitis, sore nipples and yeast infections.

Breastfeeding Centre Accessories Shop
The Breastfeeding Centre Accessories Shop sells breastfeeding accessories and rents breastpumps. It is located in Room 734 on the 7th Floor of Mount Sinai Hospital.
The shop is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
