Parent Support

We recognize that having a baby in the NICU can be a very difficult time for you and your family.  We are here to support you. Our approach to caring for your newborn baby is based on the family-integrated model.

This means that we understand that families who have a baby in the NICU face new issues, emotions and circumstances, and that your active involvement has many benefits for your baby. All members of our team are concerned with the well-being of your baby and you and your family.

Parent Group Programs

  • Parent Buddy Program:  Linking parents with other parents who previously had a premature baby in the NICU. The Parent Buddy can offer supportive understanding, a sympathetic ear and can share her/his own experiences in getting through this time.
  • A wide array of classes that cover topics such as Neonatal Development, Growth and Nutrition, and Medical Aspects of Prematurity are available to NICU parents. If you want more information call 416-586-4800, ext. 8679. A calendar of classes will be posted on your baby’s door each month.
  • Following discharge from the NICU, you may wish to stay connected and receive a quarterly newsletter. If interested or if you have questions, please send your email address to Janet Narciso at [email protected] or Amy de Nobriga at [email protected]

Parent Binders

"Me and My Baby" binder is given to all parents who have a baby in the NICU. The better informed you are, the more comfortable you will be, and have a better understanding of what is happening to your baby in the NICU.

To get more information or to obtain a copy, please speak to your baby's nurse.
