About Us

Our Vision

To be a world leader in providing the best patient-focused pain management using a unique integrated multi-dimensional approach in clinical care, research, and education.

Our Mission Statement

We will develop a highly functional and integrated multidimensional approach to pain management that will allow us to:

  • Work with our patients to help and improve their quality of life by providing a caring, compassionate, comforting and validating atmosphere.
  • Create a body of information based on our patient population that can be used to improve quality of care, educate and inspire clinical research and to ensure continued support from our stakeholders.
  • Develop an effective and productive clinical research unit.
  • Educate present/future health care providers, patients and public in the understanding and management of pain.
  • Develop clinical and academic foci of excellence within the field of pain management.
  • Make pain management a significant and integral part of the fabric of the hospital.
  • Be recognized as a leader in pain management locally, nationally and internationally.

Our success will be measured by members' personal growth and the growth of our team as well as by the quality of our care, research, and educational programs, and the respect we receive from patients, colleagues, students and other stakeholders.

Setting the Pace with a Team Approach

The Wasser Pain Management Centre is one of the first in Canada to use the multidisciplinary team approach. Led by experienced professionals, the team sets treatment goals with patients and families.

We are a referral centre for patients with chronic, non-cancer, pain disorders.

Personal Treatment

Patients receive comprehensive, individualized treatment designed to meet their specific goals. We offer a multidimensional approach to pain management that includes:

  • comprehensive evaluation
  • pharmacotherapy
  • group and individual psychotherapy
  • acupuncture
  • a variety of other treatments, as needed

We see patients with various pain disorders, often in multiple parts of the body including:

  • recurrent migraines and other chronic headache
  • temporomandibular disorders (TMD)
  • chronic back pain
  • myofascial pain and fibromyalgia
  • post-traumatic syndromes
  • neuralgias including trigeminal neuralgia and post-herpetic neuralgia
  • atypical facial pain
  • post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathy
  • complex regional pain syndromes
  • chronic pelvic region pain patients (women and men)

Regularly scheduled team conferences are held to review each patient's treatment plan and progress.

Previously, we offered services through the Craniofacial Pain and Headache Research Unit. Now, through the generous donation of the Wasser family and others, the Centre's team has come together to create the Wasser Pain Management Centre, located on the 11th Floor of the research tower of Mount Sinai Hospital.
