Prenatal Classes
The Prenatal Education Program at Mount Sinai Hospital offers a number of prenatal classes to meet your needs. All of our classes are taught by experienced health-care professionals.
Please book your classes early in your second trimester as they fill up quickly. Plan to take your classes between 30 and 37 weeks.
Registration

- Call us at 416-586-4800 ext. 2307 and your call will be returned within 3-5 business days.
Cancellation Policy: Due to the high number of registrations, we will not be able to accommodate rescheduling of class date once course registration and payment is complete.
Cancellations received more than 10 business days prior to the start of the class will receive a course refund, minus a non-refundable $30.00 administration fee. No refund will be issued if a cancellation is received 10 business days or less prior to the start of class.

Prenatal Series
Our popular Prenatal Series is recommended for expectant families to attend early in their 3rd trimester. This series is offered in two different formats: four weekly evening sessions or two full-day weekend workshops. The class content is the same for both. A tour of the hospital is included with both.

This program is designed to meet the special needs of parents expecting a multiple birth. The format is similar to the regular prenatal series but is one week longer and focuses on issues specific to parents of multiples. A tour of the hospital is included.

Labour and Birth Refresher Course
This class is intended for women and their partners who have participated in full prenatal classes with a previous pregnancy and are looking for an update. Topics include a review of the labour and birth process, comfort measures, pain management, medical interventions and preparing the sibling(s). Partners are encouraged to attend. Hospital tour is not included.

Infant CPR
This 3-hour course is taught by qualified instructors, and will cover skills needed to prevent, recognize and manage choking and cardiac emergencies in the precious infant population.

Child/Adult CPR
This 3-hour course, taught by qualified instructors, will cover the skills needed to prevent, recognize and manage choking and cardiac emergencies in the child and adult population. The course includes Automated External Defibrillator (AED) instruction.

Meet the Anaesthesiologist
The Division of Obstetric Anaesthesia offers Meet the Anaesthesiologist evenings. Information is provided on labour and delivery and post-partum pain management options. The program also includes a question-and-answer session.

Prenatal Hospital Tour
The Maternal Infant Program at Mount Sinai Hospital offers the Prenatal Information and Hospital Tour for expectant parents. Please plan to take your tour 4 to 6 weeks before your due date, and book early as tours fill up quickly.
The hospital tour will introduce you to the services offered at Mount Sinai and help prepare you for your hospital stay. You will visit the Labour and Delivery Unit, Mother-Baby Unit and the Breastfeeding Centre. Please come with your list of questions.

Virtual Tour
If you are unable to book a tour, or you would prefer to use our virtual tour, please go to www.mountsinai.on.ca/Tour/ and visit the following areas of the tour in the order given:
- 3rd floor (main) – Murray Street entrance, Admitting, Murray Street elevators
- 7th floor – Family Waiting Room, Labour and Delivery Triage, Labour Room, Breastfeeding Shop
- 10th floor – all listed areas (no post-partum room is available for viewing at this time)

Breastfeeding
This class is a must for all new moms and a good review for those with experience. A lactation consultant will provide you with practical information on breastfeeding, pumping and milk supply, along with information on nutrition and medication while breastfeeding. Partners are welcome to attend.

Early Pregnancy Information Session
Our new Early Pregnancy Information Session is for women in early pregnancy who are giving birth at Mount Sinai Hospital. The sessions are designed to allow interaction and group discussions on topics such as:
- Common symptoms and physical changes in early pregnancy and suggested coping strategies;
- Hospital and community services available to women and their families during pregnancy;
- Diet and nutrition during pregnancy;
- Use of medication, over-the-counter drugs, environmental exposures;
- Routine prenatal care and options for prenatal screening.

Parenting Multiples Lunch 'N Learn
A nurse discusses a variety of topics related to a multiples pregnancy. The classes are an informal exchange of information and are not intended to replace the "Preparing for Multiples" series offered by the Prenatal Education Program.
