About Us

The Department of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital is an integral part of an active general hospital teaching facility, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. We are a staff of 100 psychiatrists and allied mental health professionals working in an interprofessional framework. The three main components of the department's mission are:

Clinical - to provide exemplary clinical care, consultation services and treatment both to inpatients and outpatients, along with crisis and emergency services;

Research - to carry out ongoing research, independently and collaboratively, into the etiology and treatment of mental illness as well as the area of coping and adaptation to serious medical illness, to improve patient care, and;

Education - to provide training and supervision clinically and academically for medical undergraduates, psychiatry residents, fellows and nursing, occupational therapy and social work students, along with community public education and continuing professional education.
