May 16, 2008 - Many members of the Psychiatry department have recently received important honours and awards that we are very pleased to share with you.
- Scott Bowler, MSW was awarded a Wightman-Berris Academy Award for Excellence in Teaching.
- Sian Rawkins, MD, FRCPC and Lesley Wiesenfeld, MD, FRCPC were both nominated for Wightman-Berris Academy Awards for Excellence in Teaching, and also were both nominated for the Provincial PAIRO Teaching Awards.
- Mary Chiu, a PhD candidate supervised by Dr. Joel Sadavoy was awarded an Annie Kirshenblatt Memorial Scholarship for study and research within programs related to the field of Gerontology. This award is in recognition of Mary’s work studying Chinese elders in the community and focusing on risk factors for falls, with an emphasis on the relevance of possible unique factors related to depression, culture and immigration.
- Amy Tung, a MSW student working in our Wellness Program is the first recipient of the Singtao Foundation Scholarship, which honours the top-performing MSW student from the Chinese community. This award recognizes commitment to serve the community.
- Maria Choi, also of our Wellness Program, is the recipient of a Patient Programs Award from The Kidney Foundation of Canada Centre, Ontario Chapter, for her outstanding work in the community with regard to community support for chronic medical illness.
- Allan Peterkin, MD, FRCPC has been elected a Senior Fellow of Massey College in recognition of Allan’s outstanding interdisciplinary academic achievements.
- Boris Bard, RN is the recipient of a Clinical Practice Award (Mount Sinai Hospital).
