Many members of the Psychiatry department have recently received important honours and awards that we are very pleased to share with you.

·         Paula Ravitz MD, Molyn Leszcz MD, Robert Maunder MD, Jon Hunter MD, and Clare Pain, MD published a new book, “Achieving Psychotherapy Effectiveness”, the sixth book in the Psychotherapy Essentials To Go series

·         Lesley Wiesenfeld MD, Carla Loftus and Mavis Afriyie-Boateng received the 2015 National Healthcare Safety Award from the Canadian College of Health Leaders for the Safe Patients/Safe Staff Program

·         Paula Ravitz MD was elected VP/President Elect of the International Society of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (ISIPT)

·         Lisa Andermann MD was a co-recipient of the inaugural 2015 Social Responsibility Award from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto

·         Lesley Wiesenfeld MD was awarded the 2015 Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Medical Education in the category of teaching performance, mentorship and advocacy from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto

·         Jon Hunter MD was recognized for outstanding achievement and excellence in postgraduate education by the Wightman Berris Academy

·         Sam Law MD was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto

·         Robert Maunder MD and Jon Hunter MD have published a new textbook entitled “Love, Fear and Health: How Our Attachments to Others Shape Health and Health Care”

·         Julie Hann received the Community Partners Award from Chairs of the Community Relations Committee and the Community Partners’ Awards Taskforce of the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto

·         Robert Maunder MD and Jon Hunter MD have published a new textbook entitled “Improving Patient Treatment with Attachment Theory”

·         Christina Maar Andersen received the Fred Lowy Award in Psychosomatic Medicine for Excellence in Research by a Fellow

·         Rex Kay, MD received the Psychotherapy Award for Excellence in Supervision

·         Lesley Wiesenfeld, MD was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto

·         Myra Romach, MD was promoted to the rank of Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto

·         The sixth edition of “Staying Human During Residency Training” by Allan Peterkin, MD was published. Dr. Peterkin has also published “Health Care Disparities and the LGBT Population”

·         Mark Halman, MD and the Family Health Team were awarded the 2016 Collaborative Mental Health Care Award

·         Mark Halman, MD was recognized for outstanding achievement and excellence in postgraduate education by the Wightman Berris Academy

·         Patricia Abcede, RN received the Informatics Award for Outstanding Contributions to the RAI/OMHRS submission

·         Esther Hsueh, RN received the Leadership Award for Kamishibai Initiatives

·         Sandra Smoczyk, RN & Elaine Lau, RN received the G.P. Turner Award Best Practice Award for Revision of Infection Control Screening Questionnaire
