Client Criteria

To be included, participants must:

  • be 16 years of age and over
  • reside in downtown Toronto
  • have mental health problems
  • have been charged with a criminal offense in the adult court (a Class One or Two Offense)
  • voluntarily want the services offered by the Court Support Services
  • are likely to benefit from the provision of services offered by Mount Sinai Hospital Court Support Program
  • be part of an ethno-racial population
      • South East Asian
      • Tamil
      • Black


The Program cannot accommodate individuals who:

  • have been charged under the Young Offenders ACT
  • have a significant substance abuse problem as a sole problem
  • have been charged with a class three offense or higher


Access Points

The Mental Health Court is the primary access point. Other access points include:

  • defense counsel
  • legal clinics
  • other mental health service
  • providers probation and parole officers
  • consumers and their families
  • police officers
