Chaplaincy
The Department of Chaplaincy at Mount Sinai Hospital welcomes multi-faith students from a variety of educational programs and levels, including students from the University of Toronto — our affiliate school — and its theological colleges.
Our chaplains are multi-faith trained and experienced in helping patients and families with emotional and spiritual needs. Students at Mount Sinai gain a diverse and practical experience while completing their required field placements.
Students in the Department of Chaplaincy have the opportunity to:
- Work with patients and families in a variety of situations, including those who wish to receive a sacrament, who have special religious needs, who are far from home, lonely or grieving, as well as those who are experiencing setbacks
- Offer comfort, company and support to patients and families in finding what is sacred for them
- Learn experientially by attending family meetings, visiting patients and providing pastoral care to patients, families and Hospital staff
- Sit on a variety of Hospital committees
- Discuss educational and personal issues with a mentor from the Department on a weekly basis, and write reflection papers based on patient visits
- Conduct assessments, interventions and consultation sessions.
