A student in Mount Sinai's Nutrition Program
To put it simply, being a dietitian is about improving people's lives. It is about teaching people, enlightening them and helping them feel better through food and nutrition. At Mount Sinai, people understand what an important job that is.
As a Dietetic Intern at the Hospital, I have the opportunity to learn from highly skilled registered dietitians with an incredible passion for helping people.
After graduating from the Foods and Nutrition program at the University of Western Ontario in 2007, I began the Dietetic Internship Program at Mount Sinai.
I am currently in my fourth month of the Dietetic Internship Program. So far, I have completed rotations in Paediatrics/NICU and GI. Every day I learn about new patients with various diseases, conditions and diagnoses—knowledge that I can apply throughout the rest of my internship and to my career as a registered dietitian.
The opportunity to care for patients throughout the Hospital is invaluable. Combined with special projects such as updating educational resources, research and completing case studies, I have developed transferable skills that will help me throughout my career.
Another wonderful thing about Mount Sinai is its family-like environment. My mentors and preceptors have provided me with the utmost support and encouragement to foster my learning and make sure I get the most out of each rotation. Because of them, I feel comfortable and happy each day I go to work.
I love studying food and nutrition. It is fascinating, constantly researched and often in the media. So, my absolute favourite thing about the Dietetic Internship Program at Mount Sinai is learning from people who share that passion.
