The Department of Rehabilitation is affiliated with the University of Toronto, Humber College and Centennial College, and offers placements to master students in occupational therapy and physical therapy, as well as college students enrolled in physical/occupational therapy assistant programs.

The Otologic Function Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital also offers academic opportunities for Audiology and Speech Language Pathology students.

Placements at Mount Sinai – which are organized by our affiliated schools – allow students to complete mandatory fieldwork placements while developing professional skills alongside Mount Sinai’s Bright Minds and Big Hearts.

Students in Mount Sinai’s Department of Rehabilitation have the opportunity to:

  • care for a wide variety of in and out-patients in different departments of the Hospital;
  • focus on physical and psychosocial health issues;
  • integrate theoretical and practical knowledge;
  • learn about other local facilities and make valuable contacts, to help facilitate job searches after graduation;
  • participate in Practical Lab and Practical Application Sessions.

Other opportunities include:

  • Research Associate Program
    Research Degree students in Rehabilitation Science (MSc) and Speech-Language Pathology (MSc and PhD) have the support and guidance of one of the Department of Rehabilitation’s mentors while completing their graduate research project.
  • Professional Mentorship Program
    On a bi-weekly basis throughout their two-year program, Occupational Therapy students can meet with one of the Department of Rehabilitation’s mentors for guidance and feedback — not evaluation.
  • High School Cooperative Education Opportunities
    Organized through Mount Sinai’s Volunteer Services Department, the Department of Rehabilitation accepts high school students to work and learn in a variety of patient care areas.
