Access and Services

The Collection

Access to the library catalogue is through the University of Toronto Libraries Catalogue. Using the 'Advanced Search' interface, searches can be limited to Sinai Health System collection.

The library collection includes over 2,000 book titles and 370 journal titles in print. Sinai Health System staff and students also have access to over 2,500 electronic journal titles and over 1,200 eBooks.

As Mount Sinai Hospital is a fully affiliated teaching hospital, cross-appointed staff and U of T students additionally have access to thousands of electronic resource titles using their UTORid or their library card and PIN number.

Borrowing and Renewals

Most library items may be be borrowed for a period of two weeks.  Renewals may be requested by phone, email or in person.  Students and Fellows must be on rotation a minimum of four weeks at Mount Sinai Hospital in order to borrow items.  Hospital ID badges must be presented when borrowing for the first time.

Research Assistance

  • All staff and students have free access to medical and health related databases via the Library Intranet site.
  • Library staff will assist users in conducting literature searches, or provide a literature search on a particular topic.
  • Those interested in accessing electronic resources from home or office should contact the library.  
  • One-on-one or group training sessions on database searching, using citation management software or finding full text articles.

  • PubMed (free access to selected full-text articles licensed to Sinai Health System users)
  • Ovid search interface (Medline, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library databases)
  • ClinicalKey
  • EBSCOhost CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) Complete
  • Drug Information from Lexicomp and RxTx
  • Research Guides for Evidence-Based Medicine, Nursing, Business & Management, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and more
  • Electronic textbooks provided by ClinicalKey, AccessMedicine (e.g. Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine), Ovid Technologies and STAT!Ref.
  

Other Services

  • Interlibrary Loan: Books and journal articles not available in the library can be provided within 2-3 business days (minimum charge of $3.00 per item).  Books and journal articles may be requested using the order forms on the Library Intranet or by phone (x4614), email or in-person. 
  • 10 Computer workstations with Internet access are available for study and research.
  • Photocopying and Printing are available.
