The Mount Sinai Hospital opened at its present location on University Ave. in 1974.  The library in the new hospital was named the Sidney Liswood Health Sciences Library in honour of Mr. Sidney Liswood, the executive director of Mount Sinai Hospital from 1954 to 1973.

Under the leadership of Sandra Kendall, the library director, the staff of the Sidney Liswood Library is involved in a variety of projects within Mount Sinai Hospital and at the University of Toronto.  Some of these projects have included:

• In 2001 the Sidney Liswood library became the first library in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to contribute catalogue records to the DRA / SIRSI online catalogue at the University of Toronto, thus creating the beginnings of a union catalogue of health science libraries. The catalogue now includes over 20 libraries in the GTA. The library also initiated the conversion of the HSICT (Health Science Information Consortium of Toronto) print union list of journals to an online list shared with all Consortium members and their users.
• The library maintains a web-based Patient and Family Health Resources on the Mount Sinai Hospital Internet that includes links to reputable, up-to-date health information including health information authored by Mount Sinai Hospital staff.
• The library supports the Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration (TAAAC) by improving access to print and electronic clinical resources for medical students and physicians at Addis Ababa University and by supporting the library staff at the Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa.
• The library maintains a collection of staff authored publications in the T-Space Research Repository at the University of Toronto.
