Peter A. Silverman Centre: Health in a Globalized World

We live in a global world. Accordingly, individual and population health issues, such as chronic and infectious disease, are no longer confined to a specific geographic region and are being influenced by factors from around the globe.

Determinants of health and the delivery of health care have been equally affected. The increasingly international nature of these medical issues thus requires cooperative action and strategic participation for the protection and promotion of health and safety of our local population and beyond.

As a health-care community, we must accept a new global responsibility to share knowledge in order to exercise and promote health equality. 

The Peter A. Silverman Center for International Health (PASCIH) aims to address such issues, through collaborative research and educational initiatives. We believe in sharing our resources with the most disadvantaged to address global health challenges.

At PASCIH, we know that “reaching out always comes back home”. As such, PASCIH strives to enhance Mount Sinai’s mission to provide the best patient care, the best research, the best teaching, and the Best Medicine, by working to create:

• A place to unite Mount Sinai Hospital’s community with the wider world for the best patient care locally and internationally;
• A place to develop local and international health-care leadership for the global community, and;
• An incubator for creative, cooperative projects, to meet patient care needs at an international level.
