About the Maternal & Reproductive Health in Bangladesh project

With one of the world’s highest adolescent motherhood rates, unacceptably high rates of maternal mortality and pregnancy-related disability, and 90% of women giving birth at home with, at most, the help of an untrained attendant, Bangladesh creates a complex environment for maternal and reproductive health interventions.

Working in close partnership, the International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF) and local partner the Village Education Resource Centre (VERC), aim to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes through community-based programming focused on medical, cultural, and social interventions.

Project objectives include:
  • Increase access to improved services provided through local Health Centres and Health Outreach Services
  • Establish support, empowerment and training groups for women, youth and adolescent girls in project locations
  • Improve awareness of, mobilization around, and community practices regarding sexual and reproductive health issues
  • Increase awareness of healthy and hygienic environmental practices linked to maternal child health
