International Outreach - Program Areas
International Continuing Education
The Silverman Centre houses the international continuing education directorate of the Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Medicine. The directorate is responsible for facilitating international continuing education, skill development workshops, seminars, and lectures.
eHealth
In October 2005, the Silverman Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, Canada International Scientific Exchange Program, Department of Public Health Sciences, and University of Toronto, to develop the Peter A. Silverman Global eHealth Program (PASGeP).
PASGeP facilitates knowledge exchange programs between Canada and internationally through videoconferences.
Global Health Leadership Training Program
This training program focuses on health-care management and leadership for international health-care executives and physician leaders.
This program has three primary purposes:
- to provide in-depth exposure to a broad range of hospital/health management issues and one-on-one interaction with senior-level executives
- to develop the participant’s decision-making and problem-solving skills as they relate to complex organizational activities
- to provide the participant with an opportunity to explore particular issues of importance to participant’s home institution
Global Health Discussion Forum
The Global Health Discussion Forum (GHDF) is a monthly forum for members of the health-care and educational communities, including physicians, nurses, researchers, teachers, students and others interested in international work, to discuss and share experiences related to international health.
GHDF is a joint initiative by the Silverman Centre, SickKids International and the University of Toronto Centre for International Health.
Silverman Visiting Scholar Program
The Silverman Visiting Scholar Program facilitates opportunities for international academic scholars, physicians and health professionals to pursue training in the areas of clinical medicine, public health, health policy and medical education. The length of the visiting scholars program varies from a few weeks to few months.
Silverman Intern Program
The Intern Program facilitates opportunities for international medical and health students, residents and young professionals, to pursue training related to clinical medicine, public health, health policy and medical education. The program is intended to provide knowledge, skills, and experiences that an intern can apply to future challenges and professional pursuits.
International Pediatric Emergency Medicine Elective
International Child Health Elective is a joint project of the Silverman Centre, CISEPO and the Hospital for Sick Kids. This program facilitates a one-month elective in Toronto for a group of Canadian, Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian medical students.
Participants learn, research, plan, prioritize issues, define strategies and search for solutions related to a specific child health issue in their own communities by working together despite differences of ethnicity, religion, values, traditions and political beliefs.
