Nasopharyngeal Cancer Study

People from South China represent a high-risk population for nasopharyngeal cancer, a tumour that grows deep behind the nose. Our Nasopharyngeal Cancer Study led to the development of a screening test for early detection of the disease and has improved the survival rate of patients.

The study, under the direction of Dr. Jeremy Freeman, was a Mount Sinai Hospital collaboration with The Hospital for Sick Children, University Health Network, Rouge Valley Health System's Centenary Site, and community advisors.

Chronic Viral Hepatitis, Liver Cancer Study and New Antiviral Therapy

We are conducting a long-term study of hepatitis B and C, and liver cancer. About 45 per cent of the 1,200 hepatitis B patients followed in 1971 are from South East Asia. The Centre specializes in the newest antiviral therapy for chronic viral hepatitis with the aim to prevent liver cancer.
