Interpreter Services

Mount Sinai Hospital is committed to ensuring all patients and families feel comfortable communicating and are able to understand the information their health care team provides.

For patients and families who are more comfortable speaking in a language other than English, professional interpreters for more than 65 languages can be arranged at no additional cost. Free interpretation service is also available for patients who are deaf or people with hearing loss.

Using interpretation services at your medical appointment will not affect your personal privacy and confidentiality. We have taken steps to ensure that everyone who performs services for us protects your privacy and only uses your personal health information for the purposes you have consented to.

Ways of Connecting

In emergency or short-notice situations, when an in-person interpreter is not immediately available for a specific language, we may use telephone and/or video interpretation using the latest communications technology.

These enhanced technology services ensure patients can access interpreters in 180 languages and dialects, 24 hours a day, and seven days a week.
