Canada's first cord blood bank was formed in 1996 as the Toronto Cord Blood Program. In 2004, after many successes operating within Mount Sinai Hospital, the Toronto Cord Blood Program chose to partner with Insception Biosciences to raise their cord blood offering to a new and higher level of excellence, all aimed at expanding the potential uses for cord blood samples in the treatment of diseases. 

Mount Sinai Hospital and Insception continue to enjoy a successful, ongoing partnership. Insception operates a permanent and fully staffed office within Mount Sinai Hospital located at 700 University Avenue. Inception’s goal is to provide patients and their families with a one-stop location for information on Cord Blood Banking services.

With over 75 diseases currently being treated with umbilical cord blood (UCB) stem cell transplants, this list continues to grow and offers Canadians the opportunity for future treatment of diseases and cellular therapies.

Thanks to a generous fund established by the Feldberg family in honour of their daughter Victoria’s birth, The Victoria Feldberg (Embanet) Cord Blood Fund will enable 10 families delivering at Mount Sinai Hospital each year, for the next 10 years to participate in the Cord Blood Program, thereby making the program accessible to families with financial constraints.
