Patients are learning first hand that Mount Sinai’s got talent, thanks to a new six-member traveling band that roams the nursing units and performs for patients, families, and staff.

Carol Chan, Hanbert Chen, Henry Chen, Clara Cho, Sang Moo Lee and Henry Zeng, all University of Toronto students, recently became volunteers at Mount Sinai specifically so they could entertain at the Hospital. They are scheduled to perform every two weeks and have so far appeared in units on the 12th, 17th and 9th floors.

“What started as a three-member band has now evolved into a group of six. The band has been so well received by patients, their families and staff that the band has increased the number of members and will be coming more frequently,” says Lesli Herman, Volunteer Resource Coordinator.

Mount Sinai is about to discover that it has even more talent when Volunteer Services and nursing units 17 and 12 host Entertainment Sinai on March 25. Patients, families, and staff are invited to participate in such activities as a sing-along. The event will take place in the common lounge on nursing unit 17 at 12:30 p.m.

“We have received positive reactions from both patients and staff about the band’s performances and the last Entertainment Sinai event that took place during the holidays,” says Herman. “We are excited to have the band perform and the events happen more often.”
