January 24, 2007 -- With a continued commitment to excellence in Women’s and Infants’ Health, Mount Sinai Hospital is set to purchase a new and innovative 3D Ultrasound for fetal therapy, which will allow our fetal medicine team deliver the best care to our mothers and their high-risk babies.

Dr. Greg Ryan, Director of the Fetal Medicine Unit of Mount at Sinai Hospital, discusses the advantages of the 3D Ultrasound.

“With the help of ground-breaking equipment like the 3D. Ultrasound, we can continue to provide our mothers and their babies the best care possible while using the most advanced technology for our most fragile patients,” said Joseph Mapa, President and CEO of Mount Sinai Hospital. “The ongoing support of our donor community, including organizations like the National Bank group, helps us maintain our ability to provide the best care to all who come to us for care.”

“With National Bank’s interest in health care and National Bank Financial’s leadership in childhood development, we believe this is an excellent collaboration. We want to acknowledge the leadership of Lawrence Bloomberg, one of our founding CEOs and the Chair of the Hospital in initiating this partnership. Our contribution will help the many high-risk mothers and babies who come to Mount Sinai,” said Brian Davis, Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and Governance, National Bank Financial. “We are delighted to contribute to the excellent care provided at the Hospital.”

Providing the Fetal Medicine Program with the most advanced ultrasound equipment is crucial in allowing our fetal medicine team deliver the best care to mothers and their high-risk babies, said Dr. Greg Ryan, Director of the Fetal Medicine Unit.

“The 3D Ultrasound for fetal therapy will provide leading-edge, three-dimensional imaging with impeccable 2D resolution and will enable physicians to diagnose and manage fetal complications more accurately and at an earlier stage,” said Dr. Ryan.

The Fetal Medicine Unit at Mount Sinai is one of only three or four centres in North America, and one of only about 10 worldwide, which offer some of the critical interventions in high risk pregnancies that are undertaken at Mount Sinai.
