Mount Sinai named Greater Toronto Top 50 Employer for second year

October 15, 2007 -- For the second consecutive year, Mount Sinai Hospital has been named a Top 50 Employer in the Greater Toronto Area.

The 2008 edition of the annual list, conducted by Mediacorp Canada Inc, was published in the October 13 edition of the Toronto Star, and represents the recognition of GTA employers’ efforts in creating a positive and rewarding work environment for their employees.

“We are honoured to be listed as a top employer and this achievement is a direct reflection of the Bright Minds and Big Hearts that make up the Mount Sinai team,” said Joseph Mapa, President and CEO of Mount Sinai Hospital. “Our ongoing commitment to improving the Hospital’s work environment helps create an atmosphere that is stimulating, challenging and personally rewarding.”

Among the categories that were used to assess the Hospital’s workplace, and thus eligibility for inclusion on the Top 50 list, were: Physical Environment; Work Atmosphere and Communications; Health Benefits; Financial Benefits and Compensation; Family-Friendly Benefits; Programs for Older Employees; Employee Engagement; Training and Development; Vacation Policy and Personal Days Off; Environmental Leadership; and Community Involvement.

Initiatives such as the Wellness@Work program, which includes our employee rehabilitation and physiotherapy centre, on-site yoga classes, pilates, weight watchers, and access to 24-hour emergency back-up child care, were among the factors that helped Mount Sinai make the list, demonstrating our dedication to improving the well-being of all our employees and physicians.
