Frequently Asked Questions

At the clinic, your child will have a detailed assessment of your child’s growth, feeding and development. This will include looking at movement patterns, speech, play skills and problem solving abilities. These assessments are done by the neonatal clinic team.

This clinic does not provide primary medical care, therefore your baby needs a community doctor. For babies between 1250 and 2500 gm (2-5 lbs), regional clinics at community hospitals may follow your baby.

The clinic does not provide therapy. If concerns are identified, your baby will be refered to the appropriate service. Please ask your baby’s doctor for details.

We will discuss with you any concerns you or the clinic staff may have regarding your baby’s development. If there are any concerns regarding your baby’s progress, the clinic will refer your baby to specific services that will provide the support necessary to maximize your baby’s development such as infant development program, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy,etc.

Your child will generally be seen at 4, 8, 12, 18 and 36 months of age. You should be given your first appointment before you leave Mount Sinai Hospital; please ask for your first appointment before your baby goes home or is transferred.

We will asses your baby and discuss our findings with you. We will make recommendations to help you help your baby’s development. If necessary we will make referrals with your consent. We will also send a letter to your baby’s doctor and to you.

If you need to change or cancel an appointment at the clinic, please contact us as soon as possible at 416-586-4800 ext. 7290.

If your child is sick (fever, diarrhea, bad cough, chicken pox, etc.), please call the clinic at 416-586-4800 ext. 7290 before you visit the hospital.

The staff at the clinic include: a nurse practitioner, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a speech and language pathologist, a psychologist, a clinic co-ordinator and a neonatologist.
