Leo Chagoya

Couple Therapy, Family Therapy, Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Dr. Chagoya earned his medical degree at University of Mexico in 1959. He received his diploma in Psychiatry from McGill University in 1967 and completed his Psychoanalysis training in 1974. He was the Head of Family Therapy Services and Training at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec from 1968-72 and then was the Head of Family Studies at McMaster University from 1982-1985.  He became the Head of the Couple/Family Therapy Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1985 and continues in this role to today.  In Mexico Dr. Chagoya co-structured the Institute of the Family as well as a three-year training program in Couple and Family Therapy. 

His main academic interests include the different forms of psychotherapy as well as teaching and supervising individual and couple therapy. He maintains a nominal appointment as Associate Professor at the University of Toronto.  His private interests include film, literature, and health.  Dr. Chagoya is married, with one adult son and one adult daughter.
