Course Description

This innovative workshop series will focus on the fundamental skills involved in teaching mindfulness meditation in psychotherapy, including how to assess for readiness and how to coach patients/clients in meditation practice. Participants will develop clinical mindfulness skills grounded in psychotherapy essentials, including developing therapeutic alliances through empathic reflection skills and therapeutic presence.

The series highlights Recollective Awareness Meditation, an experientially-open, gentle, psychologically-oriented meditation that builds on the practices found in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and is accessible to long-time meditators and beginners alike.

Weekends will include a daily, gentle yoga or creative movement session to help us more richly orient to embodied experiencing, including several sessions with the contemplative dancer and teacher, Denise Fujiwara.

Who Should Attend?

Clinical professionals and students providing counselling or psychotherapy from any profession, including psychiatry, family practice, psychology, social work, nursing, occupational therapy and chaplaincy, will develop new mindful psychotherapy knowledge and skills, whether they are new to mindfulness or established mindfulness teachers.

Learning Objectives

After active participation in the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Assess, set up and coach patients/clients in how to use mindfulness in psychotherapy
  • Actively listen, using reflection and exploration within the therapeutic alliance through  mindful inquiry
  • Help clients using processes of mindfulness to refocus attention on neutral sensations, disengaging from overwhelming states of mind.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

A $50.00 handling fee will be deducted upon cancellation.  Refund requests must be received in writing at least 2 weeks prior to the start date.  No refunds will be given after this time.
