Early Pregnancy Clinic

This clinic is designed for women who are under 12 weeks’ gestation and experiencing complications of pregnancy. We provide assessment for conditions such as vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain or cramping, ectopic pregnancy follow up and threatened or actual pregnancy loss.

This clinic is a nurse run clinic that helps women through their early pregnancy complications. The nurse’s role is to assess and identify each patient’s needs, provide emotional support and help women decide which option is best for them. If the nurse needs to consult, review, and discuss any concerns, or requires specific advice a physician is always available. All options are provided and discussed. These include include: expectant management, medical management using Misoprostol and surgical management - dilatation and curettage (D&C). Each patient is followed until pregnancy complications are resolved. The patient is then encouraged to follow up with their own family doctor.

Women experiencing early pregnancy complications are referred via the Emergency department, their family doctor or midwife. A recent ultrasound is required, a blood group and screen and Beta hormone level is also helpful. Once the referral is received patients can call the number below to book an appointment.
