Meet the Team

Our Team consists of a supervising expert gynaecologist, endocrinologist, and a current fellow (a graduate obstetrician/gynaecologist who is doing an additional 1-2 years of training in mature women’s health and/or reproductive endocrinology). Other staff include three supporting nurses and other learners, such as University of Toronto residents in obstetrics and gynaecology, endocrinology, family practice and other disciplines (e.g. geneticists), as well as medical students.

Dr. Wendy Wolfman Dr. Wendy Wolfman

Dr. Wolfman, MD, FRCS(C), FACOG, NCMP is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto. She is the Director of the Menopause and Premature Insufficiency Clinics at Mount Sinai Hospital, University of Toronto. Dr. Wolfman is the first recipient of the Carol Mitchell Chair in Mature Women’s Health. She is currently a board member of the International Menopause Society and is the President of the Canadian Menopause Society. She is also the past Chair of the Gynaecology Consensus Guideline Committee for the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada. She lectures extensively across Canada and internationally, and contributes information on menopause and POI to the local and national media. Dr. Wolfman initiated the Menopause Clinic in 2000 due to an under-recognized patient need.

Dr. Lindsay Shirreff Dr. Lindsay Shirreff

Dr. Shirreff graduated from the OB/GYN residency program at the University of Toronto. She then completed fellowships in Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital and Mature Women’s Health and Menopause at Mount Sinai Hospital. She also completed a Master of Science in Healthcare Quality at Queen’s University. Dr. Shirreff is an assistant professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at University of Toronto and is a member of the Generalist Division at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto.

Dr. Michelle Jacobson Dr. Michelle Jacobson

Dr. Michelle Jacobson is an assistant professor in the University of Toronto department of OBGYN and core obstetrician/gynaecologist and menopause specialist at Women’s College and Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. She is a certified North American menopause society practitioner and has a Master of Health Science in translational research. She has a special interest in women who are prematurely menopausal due to cancer therapies and women with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndromes. She directs the familial ovarian cancer program at Women’s College Hospital. Dr. Jacobson lives in Toronto with her husband and two daughters.

Dr. Kelly developed an interest in premature ovarian insufficiency in the early 1990’s, seeing many women with Turner’s Syndrome and organizing full medical surveillance for them in the adult medical setting. She then became involved in the creation of the Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) Program with Dr. Wendy Wolfman to be situated at Mount Sinai Hospital. This program was created with the assistance of the Pediatric Endocrinology group of the Hospital for Sick Children who recognized a need for more coordinated and long-term follow up of these young patients. At its inauguration, the U of T interdisciplinary POI Program was the first to be established in Canada. Additionally, we began to care for survivors of cancer who developed POI as a result of their treatments both primary and secondary.

Dr. Kelly has continued her involvement with the POI Clinic since its inception and assisted with the development of our data base and gaining understanding of the needs of this population of patients. She has assisted in publishing out data to better understand how we treat these patients. We have helped patients understand all their choices and update their knowledge with advances in the scientific literature. We have presented our knowledge at international scientific meetings.

Dr. Kelly did her medical training at McGill University and came to WCH in 1991. During her tenure as Division Director of Endocrinology at WCH, the endocrine division has grown from 4 members to 10 members, representing clinical teachers, researchers, educators and quality. The Endocrine Division at WCH has won many of the U of T Endocrine teaching awards during, receiving accolades from the University Division Director as an exemplary group. She continues to be an active clinical member of the Endocrinology Division, with clinical interest in Thyroid disease, premature ovarian insufficiency and type 1 diabetes, pituitary insufficiency and other autoimmune diseases. She has won many teaching awards and created novel educational programs.

Dr. Iliana Lega Dr. Iliana Lega

Dr. Lega is an endocrinologist based at Women’s College Hospital, a scientist at Women’s College Research Institute and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Lega’s clinical practice focuses on the area of Reproductive Endocrinology and she cares for women with endocrine conditions that impact on their fertility and menstrual cycle. Dr. Lega has a special interest in POI and works at both the MSH POI clinic as well as the Turner Syndrome Program at Women’s College Hospital.
