Volunteer Opportunities

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteer positions:

MAUVE (Maximizing Aging Using Volunteer Engagement) Volunteers:

  • MAUVE on the Units
    • The Maximizing Aging Utilizing Volunteer Engagement program on the inpatient units is looking for dedicated volunteers with an interest in medicine.
      • Volunteers will have an opportunity for direct patient interaction supporting our inpatient units. Volunteers will support the care team with non-clinical duties including 1 to 1 bedside activities, friendly visits, mealtime support and more.
      • Weekday shifts from 9:30 am – 1 pm are available. Please note that there is a minimum 6 month commitment. Your dedication and commitment to this program is crucial.
      • Ideally, candidates must be comfortable:
        • Interacting with Geriatric patients with cognitive impairments
        • Possess personal or professional life skills interacting with the older population
        • Communicating with staff team
  • MAUVE Music Volunteers:
    • The Maximizing Aging Utilizing Volunteer Engagement program is looking for skilled piano volunteers to play on the inpatient units.
      • Shifts are once a week for 2 hours: Current availability is Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

    • Minimum 6 month commitment is required. Due to high volume of interest, only selected applicants will be contacted.

Our general volunteer program is currently full (including Summer volunteer program) with the exception of the opportunities listed above. Applicants (adults and post-secondary students) are encouraged to check back in the fall for upcoming opportunities.

We currently do not have roles available for high school students. Our website will be updated if opportunities become available.

Within Mount Sinai Hospital, there are a wide variety of volunteer roles:

  • Wayfinding: Our wayfinders greet and welcome patients, family, visitors, and staff as well as provide direction and/or information, escort to and from appointments, and maintain elevator flow.
  • Ambulatory (Out-Patient) Support: Volunteers support a variety of clinics performing various tasks such as greeting and checking patients in, escorting to appropriate exam areas, preparing charts, and other duties as needed.
  • In-Patient Support: Volunteers visit admitted patients to offer support through friendly visiting.
  • Other availabilities are rotational

Volunteers are placed based on hospital needs, suitability, availability and interest.
