Inflammatory Bowel Disease
What is inflammatory bowel disease?
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers to a group of conditions that affect the lining of the gastrointestinal tract and get in the way of your body’s ability to absorb nutrients from food and eliminate waste.
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the two main types of IBD. They are lifelong conditions, but symptoms flare and go into remission over time. There is no cure. IBD is managed with medications, surgery and in some cases, diet.
