Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer is a term for the types of cancers that affect the digestive system. This includes cancers of the esophagus, gallbladder & biliary tract, liver, pancreas, stomach, small intestine, bowel (large intestine or colon and rectum), and anus.

Our experts in gastrointestinal cancers provide the most advanced and effective treatment available, and are leading research in understanding cancers of the digestive system.

Our multidisciplinary team has created special colorectal and gastric cancer programs, bringing together clinical care, genetics and research.

Mount Sinai Hospital is an internationally recognized centre for the colorectal surgery. Our care team brings together expertise in clinical care, genetics and research. Our surgeons perform advanced laparoscopic and reconstructive procedures and are leaders in the management of both early and advanced colon and rectal cancer including recurrent rectal cancer, carcinomatosis and hereditary colorectal cancer. Our interdisciplinary team includes genetic counselling, nutritional counselling and support, enterostomal therapy, as well as radiation oncology (through Princess Margaret Cancer Centre) and medical oncology.

We are also home to the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program.
