Project ECHO®: Pain in Pregnancy

ECHO is an interactive online medical education program, connecting health care providers with an interprofessional specialist team to advance learning and enhance clinical skills. ECHO offers convenient, online learning (via Zoom) at no cost to participate.

When: On Thursdays from 12 to 1 p.m. between September 21 to November 9, 2023
Format: Sessions involve short didactic teaching and case discussions with an interprofessional specialist team to help you problem solve tough cases. There will be an opportunity to present patient cases for support and expert opinion.

This curriculum will focus on pain management during pregnancy, from preconception planning to labour and delivery.

By the end of these sessions, participants will be able to:

  • Provide preconception counseling around pain management and common pharmacotherapies
  • Identify resources to guide choice of pharmacotherapy and prescribing during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Identify and diagnose common pain concerns during pregnancy and postpartum
  • Understand the risks and benefits of opioid therapy during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Provide patients with some non-pharmacological pain management strategies
  • Understand when and where to refer patients with complex pain needs

We welcome all primary and prenatal healthcare providers to attend (must be practicing in Canada).
