Visiting a Patient

Mount Sinai’s family presence policy means that we welcome families and caregivers to be with patients 24 hours a day. To help patients get the rest they need, we observe Quiet Hours.

Quiet Hours are from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

During Quiet Hours:

  • Patients are welcome to have one person stay with them.
  • Most units will need caregivers to sign in with security and wear a wrist band.
  • Please be sensitive to the needs and wishes of roommates. Lounges are available on most floors for family and friends to visit if the patient's roommate is sleeping or having a procedure done.
  • For more information about Quiet Hours, please speak the care team on your unit.

When you are here during Quiet Hours please:

Speak quietly

Dim overhead lights

Turn cellphones to silent

Help protect patients

Wear your mask in patient rooms, waiting rooms and in patient care areas. Please follow the mask guidelines posted and the instructions from the clinical teams.

If you feel unwell (e.g. respiratory symptoms, fever or vomiting/diarehea), or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 10 days, do not visit a patient in the hospital.

Do not eat and drink in patient rooms or waiting rooms. If you need to eat or drink, please go to the Food Hall or other public places where masks are optional.

Clean your hands often for at least 15 seconds, especially when entering or exiting a patient’s room.

Some units have specific rules around visiting to support the needs of their patients:
